West Chester Native’s Locally Filmed, Award-Winning Movie to Premiere Virtually Next Year

VISTA Today featured an article about BLOCK:

The movie that West Chester native Carrie Brennan wrote, produced, and starred in will premiere virtually next year, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

In the film, entitled Block, Brennan chose to open up about embracing herself as a gay woman. The movie was well received by the festival circuit and recently nabbed several awards at the Los Angeles International Indie Shorts Festival. One of these was for Best Actress.

The movie was filmed in the West Chester area, including at Sprout Music Collective, Fenn’s Coffee, Stroud Preserve, and West Goshen Plaza. The film also features Dr. Sharon Kelly’s Village Psychiatry office, where the filmmaker came out, as well as a former West Chester synagogue.

“My goal is to make an impact,” said Brennan, 27, a graduate of Villa Maria Academy. “It’s not me acting or making a movie, but telling a story that needs to be told, that might make a difference in other people’s lives.”

The 43-minute movie was filmed by a 100-person production crew for six consecutive 12-hour days.

And while the official release date is still unknown, the movie will become available to a wider online audience sometime in 2021.
